Do You Ever Struggle With Happiness?
There’s a Simple Method that Helps You Feel Happier.
And it’s not later. You’ll feel happier right now! When you make this a habit, it truly shifts your life.
So, what is it? How will you feel happy regularly, regardless of life’s twists and turns?
Learn to change your focus!
What? C’mon there has to be more to it than that.
Seriously, It’s Really that Easy.
Every situation has both positive and negative aspects. Even situations that are really crappy have positive things about them. It might be something as simple as a lesson to help you avoid that type of situation in the future. It could be gaining insight that allows you to help or better empathize with others. It could even be an opportunity to finally change one’s life.
Most situations aren’t dramatic in the difference between their positive or negative aspects. Most things are simply an easy choice where to look.
For example; Stephen Covey told a story about a time that he was riding on a subway. Another passenger, a man, had four unruly children with him. The children were upsetting other passengers with their noise and chaotic activity and their father was ignoring them. Finally Dr. Covey had enough and asked the man to please control his children.
The man looked at him and said that he was sorry. The children’s mother had just passed away and they were on the way home from the hospital. The kids just didn’t know how to deal with it and were acting out.
Dr. Covey, with new insight in the situation, immediately changed his focus and started helping with the children. He also related in the story that he learned a great deal about the importance of empathy that day.
So What are The Positives in The Situation?
Dr. Covey learned a lesson about empathy and was able to help another person during his time of trial.
For the man and his children, I imagine it was receiving the help and compassion of a stranger during a time of great need.
It’s like the comparison between the rose and the thorns. Both are there. Where are you looking?
We’ve Been Trained
I know, we’ve been trained—at least in Western Society—to look for happiness in things and events. Often we get caught up in the misconception that we can feel happy when… (You fill in the blank)
And that’s one of the biggest lies of all. We can feel happy right now. You can feel happy this instant. All you have to do is choose to allow yourself to experience the positive in whatever situation you’re in right now. Even if the positive is realizing that you’d better change your situation!
